There are many advantages to having a swimming pool in your backyard including, the fact that it often provides fun for the whole family and a great place to exercise. Whether you have been considering installing assuming pool for years or several months, many of the same questions arise. Thankfully, Aqua Spas and Pools is here to help. Below are answers to questions we hear regularly.
1. How much does swimming pool installation cost?
The short answer is: It depends. Costs for building an inground pool will vary quite a bit depending on the size and location. It will also change based on your design and aesthetic preferences. As a rule, inground swimming pools generally start at around $40,000.
2. How much would it cost to install an above-ground pool?
Above ground swimming pools are significantly cheaper than inground pools. In fact, quality above ground pools can be consumer installed and start around $2,000. Although they are not generally as aesthetically pleasing, above ground pools have many of the same benefits as inground pools. In addition, you may also consider putting in a hot tub, which starts around $3,000.
3. How long does it take to construct assuming pool?
Construction time will vary depending on the size of the pool and its location. Some backyards are easier to dig than others. You may also have other considerations as part of the project, such as moving sewer lines or water lines and addressing nearby trees. Some homeowners’ associations and county requirements may slow down the project as well. On average, most projects will take between a few weeks and a couple of months.
4. Can I build a pool at any time of the year?
Unfortunately, no. The building season in the Pacific Northwest is short. It runs from about March to October. Winter months are often used for planning, however. That means it is best to start the process in November or December, so everything is ready to go when building season rolls around again.
5. Do I need a fence around my swimming pool?
Many counties require fencing around swimming pools as a safety precaution. Individual insurance companies that protect your home may also insist on fencing. Fences keep out unwanted guests so that they will not accidentally be injured in your pool. The requirements are often that the swimming pool is enclosed on at least three sides, but the home or another structure can make up the fourth side. You may also be required to install alarms on doors that go into the pool area as well. Keep in mind that even if you have an automatic cover on the swimming pool, you will most still need to meet fencing requirements.
6. What type of pool is best?
Several types of pool options are available, including vinyl, plaster, and fiberglass. Each type is not necessarily better than the other, but they each have certain advantages and disadvantages. Vinyl pools are often the easiest to take care of and refurbish. They are also extremely customizable and cost-effective. They are also more resistant to staining than other types of materials. Plaster is far more expensive but is extremely eye-catching. Fiberglass is quick to install and has many of the same benefits as vinyl, but is often more costly.
7. How do I winterize my pool?
Thankfully, the Western Washington area does not experience the sometimes debilitating cold that other parts of the United States must endure.
