“Hold onto your hat!” is always an excellent suggestion when good times are approaching, and there’s no coincidence it’s also the official theme of this year’s Kitsap County Fair and Stampede.
One of the more favorite annual community events in the area, the celebration takes place Aug. 23-27 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton, and promises all sorts of hat-clutching fun over five days for all ages and interests.
Along with traditional fair fun like food, rides, animals and entertainment, the 2017 Kitsap County Fair includes three nights of PRCA Rodeo, plus one night of Xtreme Bulls Rodeo, where some of the world’s top bull riders show their skills.
The event has been a staple of the community since 1923, although it originally took place in Port Orchard before moving to its current home in 1958.
Annual attendance is around 80,000, an impressive figure that includes plenty of residents from the county plus other visitors from surrounding counties and other fair fans throughout the Northwest. Some fairgoers have been coming for decades, always ready to cheer on riders, and the event also brings in newcomers ready for a super experience.
Much of the action for spectators at the fair takes place at the Thunderbird Arena, a 5,000-seat structure that’s perfect for watching everything from horse ad bull riding to concerts to the annual “Destruction Derby,” where drivers smash into other drivers to see who can keep moving the longest.
The Kitsap County Fair staff works all year round to create a clean, safe and welcoming environment for area events, but pulls out even more of the stops for the traditional late summer celebration.
What’s even more important to the fair staff and the community than big crowds is the quality of the education and entertainment, along with how much community spirit is generated annually. This can be seen in not just attendance during fair week but other opportunities to support the fairgrounds, including other events at the fairgrounds throughout the year.

The fun goes both ways as well – we love meeting everyone who stops by the Aqua Spas and Pools booth, and we always enjoy showing off the latest models and letting people know what it takes to own a pool or spa. It’s also fun talking with existing pool or spa owners, and answering any questions they may have, including how to get useful supplies and testing equipment to enhance their experience. We’re there to assist with all of your pool and spa needs. We will also have great deals in honor of the fair with our ‘Fairer than Fair’ deals. Contact us to find out more.
